For the past five years, Tony has been speaking to audiences of all ages and ethnic groups across the state. Most recently as a Speaker for the Utah Humanities Council -Utah's Public Square (http://www.utahhumanities.org/PublicSquare.htm), he has talked to numerous groups including schools, colleges, civic organizations and businesses about the current issues facing Latinos.
Tony has served in numerous leadership positions within the community and volunteers as Director for Proyecto Latino de Utah a grass-roots community organization. Himself an immigrant, he intimately understands the needs and challenges of the Latino community
Since Tony arrived from Peru in 1981, the Utah's Latino community grew from 60,000 to more than 300,000 today. Tony was appointed to serve as the Director for the Office of Hispanic Affairs under Governor's Michael O. Leavitt and Olen Walker.
One of his notable accomplishments includes serving as the critical catalyst in organizing Utah's April 9, 2006 "Dignity March", a public demonstration of about 40,000 people, the largest in the state's history, in support of just and comprehensive immigration reform.
Tony has a unique ability to personalize and creatively communicate his massage while also being able to connect in relevant and practical ways with his audience. His down-to-earth approach, humorous delivery, and story-filled talks will draw everyone into the message on his heart.
