With future taxation, and therefore the economy, hanging in the balance, Congress on Wednesday, Dec. 8 decided do talk, instead, about amnesty for illegal aliens provided under the mislabeled “DREAM Act.” The act passed later that night in the House by a vote of 216-198 (including eight Republicans), but faces uncertain prospects in the Senate.

(333)  Supreme Court hears arguments on Arizona\'s illegal-immigrant employment law...

WASHINGTON — The justices of the nation’s high court took shot today at contentions by the Obama administration and the business community that Arizona cannot punish companies for violating a state immigration law. Justice Antonin Scalia pointed out that a 1986 federal law taking total control of immigration matters and punishment of errant employers has a specific exemption to allow states to have their own “licensing and similar laws.”

Washington • The U.S. House passed a bill late Wednesday granting the children of some undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship if they either go to college or enter the military, setting up a decisive vote Thursday in the Senate . But supporters of the DREAM Act remain pessimistic about its chances, in large part because of Republicans such as Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who have promised to vote against the bill, even though they have co-sponsored the legislation in years past.

Luz Robles’ bill that would require permits for undocumented immigrants living in the state. His chief concern is the bill’s requirement of obtaining a federal waiver to operate.

We know illegal immigration is no longer really unlawful, but is it moral? Usually Americans debate the fiscal costs of illegal immigration. Supporters of open borders rightly remind us that illegal immigrants pay sales taxes. Often their payroll-tax contributions are not later tapped by Social Security payouts.

(344)  Dream Act: Should illegal-immigrant college students have path to citizenship?...

The Dream Act would give legal residency to immigrants who arrived before the age of 16, resided in the U.S. for at least five years, graduated from high school and completed two years of college or honorable military service. They would be subject to background checks and could not have a criminal record. Even if granted residency, they would not be eligible for federal grant scholarships. When enacted, the law would apply to those under 35.

Recently, the Utah Compact was offered up by a group of \"conservative\" Republicans and religious leaders as an alternative means of immigration reform from the Arizona-style legislation being proposed by Rep. Stephen Sandstrom, R-Orem. Attorney General Mark Shurtleff endorsed the compact and stated that an enforcement-only approach to illegal immigration is \"counterproductive and harmful.\"
