(405)  New report profiles domestic violence homicides in Utah ...

If state officials were to put a face on a domestic-violence murder victim in Utah, it would be that of a married Latino woman who’d been with her partner eight years before being shot to death at home. That portrait comes from a new report released Tuesday by the Utah Department of Health’s Violence and Injury Prevention Program and highlights, among other findings, the need to reach out to underserved communities, officials said.

(408)  Arizona voter citizen proof requirement overturned...

A federal appeals court on Tuesday struck down an Arizona requirement that residents prove U.S. citizenship in order to register to vote but upheld a mandate that they present identification before casting their ballots. Opponents of the 6-year-old law incorporating both provisions -- designed to prevent illegal immigrants from voting -- said the ruling would likely lead to thousands being turned away at next Tuesday\'s elections for lacking the required identification records.

(410)  Families in two nations weep for loss...

Like he had done every year since 1997, Ricardo Carmona left his life and his family in Salvatierra, Guanajuato, México, this summer to work in Utah. He already had planned everything for his return to Mexico on Nov. 20. He couldn\'t wait to get home to meet his new, 2-month-old son, Jesus Adrian, to be reunited with his little girl, Jimena, 7, and to hold Taresa, the love of his life. Unfortunately, those much-awaited reunions will not take place.

SALT LAKE CITY — An already contentious Salt Lake County district attorney race is ratcheting up with a new topic of sharp disagreement. The issue: allegations of racism and electioneering by deputies serving under incumbent District Attorney Lohra Miller. Miller doesn\'t dispute that the comment in question was made, but she takes sharp exception to the perspective of her Democratic opponent, who says it\'s another sign something is \"broken\" in the office.

(412)  Republicans, Democrats in Texas reaching out to Hispanics...

AUSTIN -- Whenever Linda Chavez-Thompson, Democratic nominee for Texas lieutenant governor, swings into the heavily Hispanic areas along the border, she unfailingly seeks to fire up her audiences with an impassioned plea to get them to the voting booth. \"I go out there to try to get them angry,\" Chavez-Thompson said. \"My message has been, if you\'re tired of being ignored, go out and vote so you can hold people accountable.\"

PHOENIX - One of the judges deciding whether Arizona should be able to enforce its own immigration law was nearly deported, wrongfully, as a college student. (414)  Immigration hard-liners to lead Judiciary?...

Immigration reform would not only be dead in a Republican House; the policy debate would take a decidedly rightward turn in the House Judiciary Committee, which could become a hotbed of conservative activism on one of the most volatile issues in U.S. politics.

(415)  Illegal aliens: Paralysis in Washington...

WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- If everyone in the world who wanted to come to the United States actually came, by whatever means, the country would be swamped from sea to shining sea. Even the recession that seems to consume the American political process, while it may be keeping fresh waves of illegal aliens from coming here, hasn\'t convinced a large proportion of those already here to leave. Though the U.S. economy has gone south, most illegal immigrants aren\'t following that example.

(417)  \'Don\'t vote\' ads the reason Latinos must vote...

Writing a column that potentially millions of people will read takes careful thought and research. I try to do just that, week in and week out. But I must say today I also am writing from my gut. I am outraged. You know that kind of outrage that you feel in the pit of your stomach? That\'s the kind I feel.

But a series of offensive ads or comments made by Angle may so anger, so outrage Hispanics, that they`ll be motivated enough to block Angle at the door to power.

Federal immigration police cannot say for certain that a program to extend federal authority to arrest and detain illegal aliens to state and local law enforcement agencies is meeting their priorities because they do not collect and analyze enough data to make that determination.
