SALT LAKE CITY - An anonymous letter sent to local law enforcement and media outlets lists names of alleged undocumented immigrants living in Utah. The list contains the names, addresses, phone numbers and birth states of 1300 adults and children, all of whom are of Hispanic descent. The sender, listed as \"Concerned Citizens of the United States,\" claim they are not a militia or cult and insist those on the list to be deported immediately.

LAYTON -- Sen. Orrin Hatch attended a town meeting in Layton Wednesday night and touched on the topic of immigration. While Hatch says he\'s against amnesty for children of illegal immigrants he supports a bill called the DREAM Act, which stands for Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors.

The Obama administration’s lawsuit against Arizona over its tough law cracking on illegal immigration won’t deter state Rep. Stephen Sandstrom, who says he is “full steam ahead” in sponsoring a Utah version of the Arizona law. “I actually think the more states that pass legislation and get involved in the lawsuit, the better it’s going to be for defraying costs and fighting the federal government,” said Sandstrom, R-Orem.

From 1998 to 2008, the number of eligible Hispanic voters rose 21 percent, from 16.1 million to 19.5 million. This trend is but a start. Projections show the Hispanic population increasing by nearly 200 percent by 2050. No political party can expect to have long-term success without tapping a significant amount of that Hispanic vote.

I don\'t believe the Republican Party thinks as a monolith in the states or localities across America. There are probably the same number disagreements as in the Democratic Party. But in Washington D.C., the strategy proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Minority Leader John Boehner is carried out every day by dutiful Republican House and Senate members.

Which state is the next Arizona? Attention is focused on the federal government\'s decision to challenge Arizona\'s strict anti-immigration law, but three other states could pass similar legislation next year. Oklahoma, South Carolina and Utah have each taken steps against illegal immigration, and politicians in those states are advocating further measures when their legislatures reconvene early next year.

Just like Arizona, the federal government requires immigrants to carry registration documents. The difference is that federal officials rarely enforce the law, said Peter Spiro, a Temple University law professor who specializes in immigration issues. The Justice Department sued this week to prevent Arizona\'s immigration law from taking effect this month.
